Why do we not learn from the experience of others?
"I certainly agree that diligence is the best prevention, my point is about life in general, why can we not learn from others’ mistakes and experiences. We read about horse theft, we see it happen to others and still don’t take the precautions needed to help prevent it. How many folks have chipped their horse, had them freezemarked, have current pictures showing any identifying marks etc. We all know this is what we should do but how many actually do it? Many of us fall victim to ourselves long before we are someone else’s victim. This applies not only to horse theft but in many areas of our lives. Just a thought." Werner
Why do we need horse ID? - Is it important to identify your horse? If you had to prove a horse at the sale was yours could you? What if the horse had registration papers for a horse with the same markings as yours? Without specific identification information about your horse, is is difficult for helpful search volunteers or the police to remove your horse from the person with possession. Be prepared to supply positive ID if needed.
Horse Identification Information - Is a visible marking a better theft deterrent? There are many ways to visibly identify your horse. Which way is best for you and your horse? Choose from
freeze-marking,
microchips and
hoof branding. You should also use natural markings; facial and leg markings and
whorls.
